Superman Renouncing US Citizenship Will Get You Through The Day

This link is an article about Superman renouncing his US citizenship. It takes place in Action Comics #900 (a DC comic book series) and while it’s not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things (politics, world peace, ice caps melting, etc), it surely says something about the state of America today. I found it interesting, but I’m a comic book fan. If you don’t want to read the whole article here’s the scene where it goes down and what it meant to me:

Superman stand for justice, freedom and good. Now he’s saying that he can’t do that while being associated with America. Yes, it might just be because he doesn’t want to claim to speak for America, but that also means that if he is a moral compass for good, America isn’t aligned with it anymore. Hectic – Queue American outrage.

As an interesting addendum; the writer of the story is David S. Goyer, who wrote the new Superman movie “Man of Steel” coming out next year after co-writing, along with the Nolan brother, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
